Fine American Crafts: Jewelry

	The process to create Tessoro Jewelry begins with birchbark salvaged from the logging industry in Northern Minnesota. The bark is carefully selected for interesting features, such as the lichens on the bark, which provide color and texture to many of the designs.
	The bark is then cut or torn into the shapes needed. The jewelry is painted with a clear acrylic polymer to enhance the color and to bolster the natural durability of the bark. Many semi precious gemstones, as well as pearls or simple hematite and sterling beads are used to add contrast to the bark.
	The flat copper used is recycled from car radiators. The copper is stripped from the radiator washed and sanded before it is ready to be used for Tessoro Jewelry. Sterling silver and copper wire are hand hammered for many designs. We opt to do this by hand, not with a rolling mill as we are after the hand worked effect, with all the variations from each stroke of the hammer included.
	Pin backs and post earrings utilize two-part epoxy for a very sturdy bond onto the bark. The jewelry is then carded or tagged attractively and is ready to ship.
